In the Midst of Everything
Summer has sped by quickly. It always does, but this summer especially. Just today, I realized that the roses in the yard have already bloomed. They bloom quickly, I thought. They must bloom at the usual time; it’s just that there has been so much else to do.
In the midst of everything, I try to take small moments. Moments that are still. And definitely quiet. The days are filled with noise—machines, people, and thoughts. The sounds can be overwhelming, and the only way to recover is in complete silence.
In the evenings, I take a little moment outside. In my garden chair, in the woods, or in the flower field. Just quietly. I’m not really doing anything, but that’s the whole point. It’s rare to do nothing. Too rare. I could be an ambassador for silence and doing nothing.
So, here’s a reminder for you to do nothing. To pause in the summer evening. To listen to the silence and breathe.
