For Winter - A Short Film About the Love for Northern Winter
Here it is now, my short film about the love for the northern winter. Talvelle - A Story for Winter. The same one I mentioned earlier. It was shown at two sold-out movie nights, in Helsinki and Ylläs at the end of last year. Now it's available for all of you to watch as well.
The film is a compilation of three winters in Lapland. It tells the story of what it's like to live in a place where winter lasts up to eight months of the year. How you can find beauty and inspiration for creative work from the darkness, cold, and snow.
The film is in Finnish, but you can turn on English subtitles.
It was nice to chat in Finnish for the video. Somehow it brings you closer to the core of the message when you can talk about things important to you in your native language. And you quickly notice, when trying to translate those things into English, how difficult it can be to translate Finnish expressions and its rich adjectives into English.
The film also features a song I composed, which plays right at the beginning and a little snippet at the end. The song came together quickly, almost effortlessly. Its inspiration was—unsurprisingly—winter. I made it already the spring before last, when, in true northern fashion, winter suddenly transitioned into summer in just a couple of days. It takes time to adjust to that. Maybe someday I'll make a music video for the song and release it on its own. That would be fun.
I’m so happy to finally release this film for everyone. It’s the result of a long process and is my biggest project to date.
Feel free to share the film and show it to your friends. I’d love to hear your thoughts—what you think of the film and whether it captures the atmosphere of the northern winter. ☺️
