Greetings from the sickbed
No, it’s not COVID.
It feels like, in this strange time, that’s a phrase we all need to say, almost like a get-out-of-jail-free card, anytime we even cough a little. It’s understandable—there’s a lot of fear around health issues, especially in a situation where, as humans, we suddenly find ourselves powerless in the face of something. We can’t solve the problem in an instant, can’t just get rid of it, and we’re reminded of our smallness. So, every little precaution to avoid spreading fear and insecurity is put into action.
So no, I haven’t gotten COVID, just a regular, stubborn cold. I’m rarely sick, but this time I’ve been down for over a week. It also gave me the chance to test out the "comfort" of a COVID test and spend five days in quarantine here in the forest, waiting for the results.
Even Papu seemed to sense something was off—keeping a close, yet gentle, watch on me as I rested.
It was a new experience being alone in quarantine, especially in a place where I don’t know many people yet. The level of service here isn’t like in cities, where you can order food and supplies to your door almost any time of day. I wasn’t in any trouble—my pantry was well-stocked because I usually buy more at once to avoid frequent trips to the village for small things. But it was an interesting scenario to face. Luckily, I enjoy my time in the cabin.
A week alone without seeing anyone is tough, even for someone who loves solitude. Thankfully, remote connections gave me the human contact I needed. Thanks to my friends in Pohjanmaa for brightening my days! <3
I missed the outdoors the most, with the beautiful fall colors and golden autumn sunlight tempting me through the window almost every day. I managed to make daily trips to the mailbox and play fetch with Papu in the yard, so she wouldn’t have to suffer from a lack of activity, but otherwise, I had to close the curtains during the day to avoid longing for the outdoors too much and potentially prolonging the illness.
Papu is showing me how to rest properly 🙈
After a week of rest, countless movies (more good than bad 🙄), knitting, reading, sleeping, and drinking liters of ginger tea, I’m finally starting to feel almost normal again.
Life will soon win, and I’ll be back outside, admiring the fall colors that are now in full swing. I’ll update with pictures and stories as soon as the autumn gray rain lets up.
Stay healthy! Warm hugs. 🤗
